A commuter town built at full speed

The Nissan plant anchored a boom that filled Smyrna with subdivision after subdivision, most of them built from the 2010s on — small lots, houses close together, every yard machine-graded on a production schedule. That era of building left a signature behind: backyards that pitch a few degrees the wrong way, drainage easements that never got their swales finished, and fill that's been settling ever since.
